How to build an email list
To build an email list, put a specific lead magnet in front of the audience you already have, make the sign-up stupidly easy, and start monetizing from subscriber one. List building and list monetization are the same system; building “an audience first, revenue later” is how lists end up big, cold and worthless.

- Consumable in 15 minutes. Checklists, swipe files, templates, a short private video. Long ebooks convert worse and get read never.
- A natural bridge to your paid offer. The magnet’s topic should make your program the obvious next step, otherwise you’re collecting freebie hunters.

Step 2: build capture that can’t be missed
You need exactly one landing page: headline with the promise, three bullets of what’s inside, an email field and a button. Every extra element lowers conversion. Then put doorways everywhere your audience already looks:
- Content first. Every YouTube description, podcast show-note and social profile links the lead magnet. Content viewers are the warmest possible subscribers; they already chose to hear from you.

- Borrowed audiences. Podcast guesting, newsletter swaps and guest posts, each with your magnet as the call to action.
Skip the spammy plays: no purchased lists, no auto-adding people who DM’d you once, no pre-ticked checkout boxes. Consent isn’t just legal cover; it’s what makes the list respond.
Step 3: the welcome sequence turns sign-ups into fans
The first 72 hours after sign-up is the most attention you will ever get from a subscriber. Use a five-email welcome sequence:
- Deliver the magnet and set expectations (what you send, how often, why it’s worth staying).
- Your origin story, the one that explains why you do this and who it’s for.
- Your worldview, the opinion that separates you from every other expert in their inbox.
- Proof, a client story with real numbers.
- A soft first offer, the smallest sensible next step.
